Adventurous white wines to try:

Have you heard of the Blattner hybrid, Petit Milo? The ancient Swiss grape, Petite Arvine? Or Spanish Albariño from Galicia? Living in B.C. means you don’t have to search far for interesting and exciting wine. B.C. is home to almost 50 white grape varieties. Pinot Gris and Chardonnay are at the top of the list with Pinot Gris planted on 1300 acres across B.C.’s nine wine regions extending from the Kootenays to Vancouver Island. White wines of B.C. range from light and fresh, to rich and round. Here are some interesting dry, aromatic white wines to try in honour of  National White Wine Day.

Averill Creek 2021 Pinot Gris: Vancouver Island estate grown, foot stomped dry, with flavours of fresh citrus and crisp green apple, white blossoms on a mineral salty finish. Classic. $30

Unsworth 2021 Petit Milo: Vancouver Island style, off dry with flavours of ripe stone and tropical fruit with rewarding texture and fresh citrus finish. Great balance. $25

Arrowleaf 2021 Petite Arvine: Lake Country dry with ripe aromas and flavours of peaches and cream, fresh lemon and white flowers. This is an ancient Swiss grape variety and the only planting of its kind in B.C. Fantastic. $28

Terravista 2022 Albariño: Naramata Bench dry and racy, with juicy, fresh pink grapefruit aromas and flavours. Great tension. $31

Peak Cellars 2022 Gewurztraminer: Lake Country dry, floral and fragrant with distinctive notes of rose water, orange marmalade and a long citrus finish resting on delicate pepper and mineral spice. Great style. $20

Bench 1775 2022 Viognier: Naramata Bench dry, with enticing aromas of stone fruit and honeysuckle with distinct flavours of apricot, green nectarine, ginger peel and peach pit. Terrific wine. $25

This list barely scratches the surface of the offering available of B.C. white wines and is designed to inspire wine lovers to buy local. Cheers to National White Wine Day and to B.C.’s tasty wine country offerings.
